Russ Bailey's Custer Wildcats are going to be a handful in 2019

By Rich Winter

Needing a win to clinch the playoffs, Russ Bailey’s Custer Wildcats delivered.

In a big way!!!

The Wildcats had to beat Lead/Deadwood, the top team in the Region with a 6-1 record coming into the playoffs….

Custer 26 - Lead/Deadwood 13…(At one point it was 26-7 so a terrific effort from Russ Bailey’s Custer Wildcats who punched that ticket to the 11B playoffs where they will meet Winner in the first round next Thursday.

Anyone look at the Custer roster this year:

Two seniors: Jaret Woodward and Danny Fries…..(THAT’S IT)

11 juniors and 14 sophomores….

RB - Micaiah Grace - JUNIOR

QB - Dathon Elmore - JUNIOR

RB/LB - Tyler Terrill - JUNIOR

Scoring Highlights from the win over Lead/Deadwood

This team, with all of those young players is hitting its stride late in the season…

After that 56-13 loss to Hot Springs on Sep. 14

BYE WEEK

Beat Pine Ridge 48-26

Lost at Red Cloud - 46-35

Beat Lead/Deadwood - 26-13

Feel like the first-round playoff matchup with Winner is going to be a good test and a good learning experience…Off-season lifting, track in the spring….This is going to be a team to contend with in 2019
