Doug Osthus's De Smet girls looking like a serious Region 3B contendor

Boy, pretty early into the season and it is readily clear Doug Osthus’s girls are hungry.

The wins already, impressive

Beat Estelline/Hendricks 64-27

Beat Wolsey/Wessington 48-19.

Handled Lake Preston 66-29

Turned some heads with the 55-37 win over a good Class A Dell Rapids squad.

And just got done beating Clark/Willow Lake

Lake Preston game:

De Smet rolled to a 66-29 win over Lake Preston in Dakota Valley Conference girls basketball on Thursday.

Rynn Osthus fired in 16 points to pace the Bulldogs (3-0 overall and 2-0 in the DVC). Reyna Beck followed with 13 points and Autumn Wilkinson 12. Wilkinson hauled in six rebounds.

The Bulldogs shot 49 percent (27-of-55) with four 3-pointers along with 33 rebounds, 22 assists and 12 steals.

Vs. Dell Rapids:

  • De Smet held the Quarriers to just two points in the first quarter and built a 12-2 lead after eight minutes of play.

  • De Smet then held the Quarriers to just six fourth quarter points on their way to the victory.

Junior, Autumn Wilkinson is a girl that can really shoot it.

  • Kristin Poppen is a 6-footer who knows how to operate in the post

  • Senior, Rynn Osthus, the leader of this group.

  • Kennadi Buchholz the 6-foot freshman has some good footwork.

Keep an eye on this No. 5 squad…Big test coming up Jan. 10 at the Hanson Classic.
