Freeman Academy FROSH, Quincy Blue has his head in the game...

By Rich Winter

Ended up watching the 4th quarter of the Colome @ Freeman Academy/Marion game from Friday night.

One of the players that really caught my attention was Bearcat freshman (#25) Quincy Blue

Early in the 4th quarter, Quincy Blue picked up a deflected ball, and somehow put it in amongst the Colome Bigs….

Only a freshman, this guy plays solid D and was doing a nice job against some pretty accomplished guards from Drew Weber’s Colome Cowboys…

The one that really catches one's attention though is following a Colome turnover, Blue digs out a loose ball, sprints away from traffic and has the presence of mind to hear his coach, Austin Unruh, screaming for a time-out…(Might seem like a simple thing but not a lot of freshman could execute in that situation)

FAM looks like a team that should be near the top of a RUGGED, Region 5B….How they hang with big-boys, Bridgewater/Emery and Irene/Wakonda will tell if this is a tourney-ready team.

Drew Weber’s Colome Cowboys will be sharp by Jones County tourney:

Thus far it has been pretty smooth sailing for Weber’s Cowboys…

Won over Gregory, in Gregory 54-46

Beat Cody/Kilgore 59-18

Beat Avon 64-27

Beat FAM 46-45

Frankly, after watching that 4th-quarter against FAM, Weber’s squad still has some work to do…

Layton Thieman has been monstrous with 19.7 ppg, 9.3 prg…

Jackson Kinzer 17.3 ppg, 7 rpg, 5 assists and 2 steals per.

Stopped in at an early December Colome practice. Asked Jackson Kinzer how things were going…”We still have a lot of work to do.”

The 9B football champs will likely shake more basketball rust off through the holidays and games against Wessington Springs and Lyman.

And then, onto what looks like a LEGIT Jones County tourney…

Here are a couple of video clips highlighting the heady play of FAM Frosh, Quincy Blue and, of course, the game winner as Kinzer to Bertram sounds kinda familiar.
