Cannot wait to see Dell Rapids senior Ravyn Hoffman compete tonight....

By Rich Winter

Alright, getting pretty fired up for this Sacred Hoops Game of the Week matchup between Dell Rapids and Flandreau. Guess I’m excited to hear coach Bertram (Fire) and Lee Palmer (Ice) on the call tonight as part of the Sacred Hoops/Big Sioux Media Game of the week.

Schedule says 6:15 p.m. CST…(That might be JV)

A lot of reasons to tune in and watch this one…
Taylor Trohkimoinen’s Lady Quarriers are 3-2 with wins over SFC, Tea Area, Baltic..

Tough loss to Class B Desmet and most recently a 53-56 road setback to a good MCM squad.

Flandreau is also 3-2 on the season with a TUFF loss to Beresford and a 56-53 road loss to always problematic region 2A foe, Hamlin.

There is a long, long season ahead but this is one of those TUFF, early-season games where teams can often find themselves…With both teams having state tournament aspirations, this one could be a veritable BARN-BURNER.

Great matchup aside, looking forward to watching Dell Rapids senior Ravyn Hoffman play tonight. Hoffman is adopted and lives with her parents in Dell Rapids in a mostly white community. This summer, Hoffman had the opportunity to play with the Sacred Hoops, All-Native team coached by Amanda Carlow.

Bix Sioux Media did a terrific interview with this young lady this summer…Here is what she said in regards to discovering part of her culture she’d never known before.

Just before the Lakota Nation Invitational, Coach Bertram and myself briefly discussed doing a logo contest for Sacred Hoops….something kind of LNI inspired…Well, we put out the APB for a contest to design a logo…

Only one person applied, Dell Rapids senior Ravyn Hoffman.

(If you get a chance, please watch the entire video that I’ll attach at the bottom….This summer with Sacred Hoops meant an awful lot to Ravyn Hoffman, and her family.)
