Hamlin's Cade Poppon looking DANGEROUS in Class A field and track

By Rich Winter

One of the events that I'm really looking forward to seeing this year is the Class A 110 meter hurdles.

HURDLES?

Yeah hurdles...

One of the reasons why is that in Class A, the top-7 finishers return for what could be one of the more explosive events at the state track meet.

Returners: Results from state meet!

1st - Cooper Baloun - Redfield/Doland 15.08

2nd - Justus Adams - Sioux Falls Christian 15.19 (This guy is dangerous...one of the best 100/200 guys in Class A...he's also an excellent hurdler).

3rd - Caden Lamer, Tri Valley 15.57 (Third as a sophomore)

4th - Jonathon Doeden - Groton - 15.67 (Fourth as a freshman...that's RARE)

5th - Stephon St. Pierre  - Wagner 15.70 (Is a junior)

6th - Cade Poppen - Hamlin - 15.89 (Is a junior)

7th - Ethan Gilbert - Lennox (15.97) (is a senior)

Folks, that is a load of talent coming back...Some young guns should be faster and Baloun and Adams should be well under 15-flat by the time state rolls around.

High jump: Alright, so we had a heck of a competition at last year's Class A State meet.

Four athletes got over 6-foot-5...One of them, then Hamlin sophomore, Cade Poppon.

1 Schmidt, Mason            11 Dell Rapids            6-07.00   10

  2 Fykstra, DeJay            12 SF Christian           6-05.00    8

  3 Bergmann, Cole            11 Dakota Valley          6-05.00    6

  4 Poppen, Cade              10 Hamlin                 6-05.00    5

So, Schmidt is bound for SDSU as the defending state champ in this event. Dykstra has graduated, Bergman is back and a senior. Poppon is back as a junior.

Love athletes that have a little range to them. Placing in the 110 hurdles and the high jump...Ya don't see that very often. Sky is the limit....this could be a premier event at the state meet.
