Whalen and Ecoffey impressive as Crusader track & field hits the ground running

Red Cloud's Jeremiah Whalen won the 1600 meter run by over 12 seconds.

By Rich Winter

The Red Cloud track and field teams got their season underway this past Tuesday and a couple of athletes for the boys and girls stood out.

Boys – Really liked how Jeremy Whalen did in the 800 and 1600 meter events. Whalen was second in the 800 meters….2:12

No. 1 Meiners is pretty solid and Whalen’s time of 2:12 this early suggests he could be chasing 2-flat later this season.

1600 meters: Whalen didn’t go out the fastest but he likely ran the most even pace of any of the guys in the field. To start the season at 4:59 (1stplace and 12 second up on No. 2) is a good start…Anything under 4:50 is going to be vying for a state berth from Region 7A
