Jacob Wike bringing it home in the final of Medley relay at Pierre

With so few track meets so far this spring it has really been hard to gauge fitness levels and the actual speed of some of the fellas on the Todd County track team. On Thursday, the TC track team traveled to Pierre for a very big meet with a ton of Class AA schools. While the Falcons, short on training, got knocked around in the open events....

But, Coach Bob Kornely loaded up the medley relay (200/200/400/800) for a crack at the big boys...And they won, clocking a 3:51.29. Don't think school record holders Bryce Hammer, Ty Herman, Jordan Poignee and Austin Hammer are worried, nervous maybe.

First-year track guy, Josh Rowland led off with a 24 split...Junior Brenden Waln ran a 23....Sophomore Bryce Hammer a 53 - 400 and Sophomore Jacob Wike anchored with a 2:08.

Coach Kornely was extremely complimentary of this group's effort and lauded anchor Jacob Wike for making an authoritative pass at the 400 mark of his 800.

Will be fun to see the TC track meet in a few more competitions, Pine Ridge Wednesday and a tough meet in Sturgis on Saturday.

During a Monday evening interview, TC Track coach Bob Kornely said he was extremely pleased with Kelsie Herman and Raven Cournoyer in Pierre. Herman ran a 12:32, 3200 meters (Kornely said that is far ahead of her pace at this time of year) and a 5:48, 1600. Raven Cournoyer, still battling a sore foot, ran a 2:36 800 meters. Both are working into shape running a variety of events.

Kane Redfish and Dennisa Calandra are newcomers of the week

Really excited to see a couple of new faces on the Todd County track team this season.

Junior Dennisa Calandra is a terrific volleyball player with a deadly serve and some heavy hitting action. For the Falcons this season she's giving the hurdles a shot and starting to get better.

Redfish is just a freshman and had a solid basketball campaign for the Falcon squad. Running some short sprints and a few relays for the Falcons.
