Herreid/Selby senior, Trevor Begeman, having MONSTER senior season

Begaman 58'11" shot

By Rich Winter

Was poking around the SDHSAA automatic state field and track leaders this morning. Hadn't looked through the Class B boys section for a few days and was stunned to see a 58'11" shot put from Herreied/Selby senior Trevor Begeman.

Holay that is a monster effort!!

Class B Shot Put - 45'01.00" (45'1") is the automatic qualifying standard)

1.Begeman, Trevor58'11.00"Herreid/Selby Area

2.Howard, Jacob51'05.50"Sully Buttes

Looked through the Class B results from a year ago and Begeman finished third in the B division behind a couple of big-time shot-putters, Canistota's Xavier Ward and Colome's Matt Campbell.

2017 Class B  state boys shot put results

 1 Ward, Xavier              12 Canistota             58-02.75   10

  2 Campbell, Matt            12 Colome                54-06.00    8

  3 Begeman, Trevor           11 Herreid/Selby Area    50-08.00    6

Don't know what the folks up in Herreid/Selby are feeding this young man but the leap to 58'11" puts Begeman in some rare air.

Top South Dakota shot-puts this season regardless of class.

2. 1.Kasowski, Jacob 56'03.50"Tri-Valley (Class A)

Digging a little deeper, Begeman's throw is about three feet away from cracking into the Top-10 for all-time shot put distances in South Dakota.

Has been a heck of a year for Begeman

Class 9A, All-State guard Trevor Begeman Herreid/Selby

This year, nearly every running play was behind him on offense, and on defense, he recorded 86 tackles, 4 sacks, 4 tackles for loss, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries. In his career as a starter, over the course of three years, the offense rushed for 6132 yards, and in his career on defense, he recorded 157 tackles, 8 sacks, 11 tackles for loss, forced two fumbles, and recovered 4 fumbles.

"Trevor was voted MVP of our team as an offensive/defensive lineman," Randall said. "He is the best offensive lineman we have ever had in our program and has the opportunity to play collegiately. There isn't a program in the state (regardless of class) that wouldn't be better with Trevor."

Devastating BLOCKER!!

Harried/Selby nearly made the Class B state basketball tournament...

Helped the Wolverines to a 17-3 regular season record. At one point this season, Herried/Selby ran off 16 straight basketball wins. The Wolverines lost a heartbreaker to Timber Lake, 58-54 in the Round-of-16.

Wow, what a great year and looking forward to the state shot put competition. Begeman is also pre-qualified in the discus and is currently ranked No. 4 in the state in that event.
