Should Chas DeMers and Ben Pravacek be nervous

Winner Freshman Brady Fritz breaks 50-year-old Winner triple-jump RECORD

Very interested to see how the Region 7A track meet in Mission goes down tomorrow. Normally we see a lot of Winner vs. Todd County in track, but, with the weather the way it was this year, the only time these TRACK POWERS have clashed was briefly at the Sturgis Invitational.

Winner freshman Brady Fritz attacking the Winner record-books:

Right out of the gate I really want to say I hate throwing up on freshman. Seen a lot of freshman come in and have early success in their high-school careers and not get much better as their careers progress....

Judging by the mettle Mr. Fritz has shown this year, somehow, don't think that is going to be a problem. Came into this year assuming that Fritz would have a great season in the long-jump, improve in the triple jump and run on a couple of Winner relay teams that would be decent, but not where they were a year ago.

WRONG...sort of...Winner track coach Larry Aaker offers some thoughts.

"Brady's best TJ from last year was 41'5 and LJ 20'11¼" His best as a 7th grader were TJ 39'5" and LJ 19' 2½". Going in to the year we expected big things from Brady even though he is just a freshman. He has been on the varsity for two years qualifying for state in both LJ & TJ his 7th & 8th grade years. He also ran on our relays both years as well including anchoring our 4x1 at state last year. So it hasn't been much of a surprise to see him shine this year," Aaker said.

Long jump: 7th best leap in Class A this season...21'4.5"

Third-best Triple-jump in Class A this season...(Winner record)

1.Landguth, Kale 44'01.25"St. Thomas More

2.Janke, Jaxon 43'10.75"Madison

3.Fritz, Brady43'08.00"Winner

4.Priebe, Riggs43'08.00"Chamberlain

The Winner guys have teamed up for the 5th best 4x100 in the state..

5. Winner - 44.51 (Not all that far off the school record.

The Sprints though, that is where it is surprising.

Sure Mr. Fritz is fast...Fast enough to already have his name etched in the Winner record-books in the 4x200, as an 8th-grader a year ago. But, heading into the track post-season, Fritz has some alarmingly fast 100 and 200 meter performances.

100 meters - Fritz 11.19, 7th-fastest Class A time

200 meters - Fritz 23.12, 11th fastest Class A time

Fritz has pre-qualified for state in the 100, 200, 4x100, long jump and triple jump...As a freshman!!

Really excited to see how the post-season of track goes for Mr. Fritz and dang excited to see what he'll do in football and basketball for the next three years.

Freshman basketball stats: 15 ppg, 5rpg, 1.8 apg, 2.5 spg

Should Ben Pravacek be nervous....Norrid chasing UNCLE!

While Winner freshman Preston Norrid hasn't cracked any qualifying lists, he has caught my attention, throwing the discus 128 feet as a freshman....For those of you that don't follow discus...For a freshman, that's BAD-ASS.

Norrid looks like one of the next corn-fed Winner guys that is putting in WORK, and even surprising his track coach.

"Preston Norrid has worked very hard the past couple years on his technique and he has a great work ethic," Aaker said.  "To see him throwing this well as a freshman has been a little bit of a surprise, but Preston is chasing his uncle Ben Pravecek's school record of 161'1" (UH-OH)

Short on numbers can the Winner guys win Region 7A

The Winner boys track team recently won the SESD track title with just ten guys competing. The Warriors score a ton of points in the field events, and the relays look locked and loaded.

The Region 7A track meet is Thursday in Mission.
