It has been a few moments since we last saw Briar Cliff's Robert Iron Shell in action. Last spring, Iron Shell redshirted, taking a year off for one final run at a 400 meter NAIA National Championship.

He was done with indoor eligibility, and so for an entire year plus, Iron Shell worked with the knowledge that the outdoor season of 2018 would be his last collegiate experience.

Over the Weekend, Iron Shell competed in the Great Plains Athletic Conference track-meet in Sioux City with all of that hard work coming to fruition.

During the meet, Briar Cliff qualified for nationals in three events, with Iron Shell contributing to all three efforts.

400 meters: 1st - 48.2 (A Standard, qualifies for nationals)

4x100 - 2nd - 41.17 (The 4x100 team of Chad BlankAJ LeflerSage Lloyd and Iron Shell clocked an A Standard of 41.17 to finish second, just .05 behind the first place team)

4x400 - 3rd - 3:15.69 (4x400 relay team of Tobe EzimoraJoe Heinrichs, Lloyd and Iron Shell finished third in the event with a time of 3:15.69 for another A Standard)

200 meters - 2nd - Iron Shell ran a 21.86

Iron Shell, a Rosebud Sioux Tribal member, regularly comes back to the Rosebud and helps facilitate running camps and other events.

One more regular season meet for Iron Shell and the Briar Cliff team who are scheduled to run at the Concordia Twilight meet in Seward Nebraska on May 11.

And then, the NAIA Nationals, May 24, 25, 26 in Gulf Shores Alabama.
