On paper last night’s Winner @ Tri-Valley game was supposed to go the way of the Mustangs. Sure Winner came into the road game with a glossy 6-2 record, but surely when they ran into a Dak-12 team on the road, things would come undone…..
NOPE…Winner jumped out to a 22-10 first quarter lead, never really looked back and closed with a 54-40 road win….
That three headed monster of Joren Bruun, Bandon Volmer and Brady Fritz….all reached double figures with Bruun (17), Volmer (17) and Fritz (11) combining for 45 points.
Tri-Valley (4-4): Riley Haynes notched 16 points in the loss, while Will Kulzer tallied nine points and six rebounds. Gabe Krump pulled down 10 boards for TV. The Mustangs host Beresford today.
Watched most of the first half of that game and suddenly Winner looks like a legitimate Region 7A squad. Gardner has so many lanky, athletic players and suddenly the Warriors are pressing….Yeah, athletes with long arms that work together really made things difficult for Tri-Valley.
The move to bring Shea Connot off the bench seems to be paying dividends. Connot is always on the floor, digging out loose balls, drawing charges, running the floor and doing all those things you want a 6th-man energy guy to bring.
Balance at the top makes all the difference and the Warriors have the best 3-headed monster in a very competitive region.
Brady Fritz - 13.8 ppg, Joren Bruun 12.9, Brandon Volmer 11.5 with Connot contributing 9 per game.
If you watch the game, Winner out Dac-12’d a team that is currently sitting third in Region 3A. Solid ball movement, team play and suddenly Winner looks dangerous with that 7-2 record.
Big game coming up next Thursday and one of the only chances for Gardner’s crew to get a look at the best-of-the-best from Region 7A.
