U do not want to see Battle-Tested White River girls in the post-season

The White River Tiger girls with a team photo just prior to the start of the high-school season.

During last week’s Sacred Hoops podcast, Director Sam Willard noted that often times people on the outside tend to focus too much on the win/loss record instead of looking at how well that team is playing.

At 8-4 most of the Class B field likely views the Tigers as a state-tournament outside looking in….

Not so fast Class B girls basketball.

Caught the box-score of White River’s 81-48 victory over Gregory…After seeing a balanced high-scoring attack…Kaylee Wells 27, Caelyn Valandra-Prue 25 and Remedy Morrison, 15, thought it would be meritorious to tune in and watch a little White River girls BALL.

Caught up to Thursday’s game near the end of the first quarter with White River leading 16-13.

  • Remedy Morrison digs out loose ball for steal, Caelyn Valandra Prue hits 3-pointer

  • Nicole Yackley hits 15-footer

  • Kaylee Wells monster blocked shot

  • Caelyn Valandra-Prue (CVP) hits a cutting Wells for a basket

  • Trinity White Hat to Wells for a basket

  • Wells grabs offensive rebound…dribbles out to 3-point land, nobody checks her…BANG!

  • CVP hits 1-2 at the line

  • Wells, offensive rebound-putback

  • Another monstrous Wells block

  • CVP 23-footer (All net)

  • CVP bank shot….

What had been a 16-13 turned into a 20-0 run and a 36-13 as Barnhart’s Lady Tigers absolutely clamped down on defense….

What the box score didn’t show is that this White River squad is digging in on defense…and crushing the opposition in rebounding, grabbing 33 as a team…Hadn’t seen White River since Lakota Nation and they now look like a team that’s staring to find their rhythm and identity…

If White River runs the table to finish 16-4….look out…
