December Coaches of the Month: Corsica-Stickney's Lorisa Broughton and CWL's Jerome Nesheim

By Rich Winter

For much of the month of December Lorisa Broughton’s Corsica-Stickney Jaguars have been handling their business and rolling the competition.

W - 60-17 over Colome

W - 59-37 over 2018 State tournament team Avon

W - MVP (3-2) 58-35

W - Wessington Springs 65-30

The Jaguars were starting to make some noise in the Class B polls, No. 4 in the latest poll…

But, they hadn’t beaten anyone ranked…

Until Saturday when they knocked off No. 2 ranked Warner at the Parkston Classic.

The No. 2 Corsica-Stickney girls basketball team outscored No. 4 Warner 14-9 in the fourth quarter and edged the Monarchs 47-46 at the Parkston Classic on Saturday.

(5-0): Courtney Menning and Avery Broughton paced a balanced scoring attack with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Broughton added 10 boards. Raven Barse finished with three steals, eight points and 11 rebounds. The Jaguars play at Wagner on Jan. 5.

Off to a great start and now in contention to be one of the best teams in Class B.
