Thursday’s first-round game of the Dakota Oyate Challenge didn’t go so well for James Bagwell’s Lady Chiefs. An ice-cold first half found Crazy Horse down 20-10 to the Marty Lady Braves. Leading scorer, Deidra Roberts managed just two points in the first half and it looked like Crazy Horse was heading to the consolation bracket of the late January event held in Huron.

Things changed dramatically for the Lady Chiefs in the second half as Bagwell’s crew scored 34, second-half points and pulled ahead late for a 44-37 win. Roberts, the 5-foot-8 sophomore got it rolling in the second half scoring 12 of her game high 14 points to lead the girls into the semis at the Huron Arena.

Crazy Horse coach James Bagwell - “She’s putting up crazy numbers and leading as a sophomore. She rebounds and defends. She’s averaging 17 points a game 7 rebounds and 3 steals right now. She has had 3 games straight with 20 plus points and 6 games this year with 20 plus points . She’s efficient the girls is special.”
