Round-of-16 Projections: If the Round-of-16 started tomorrow DOC Champs Tiospa Zina would be No. 5 seed

By Rich Winter

After an impressive romp through the Dakota Oyate Challenge the Tiospa Zina Wambdi find themselves with an impressive 14-1 record….Still, the only blemish on Donnie His Many Lightning’s squad is that 78-76 loss to Red Cloud on Dec. 13 during the quarters of the Lakota Nation tournament.

Twelve consecutive wins including the three at the Dakota Oyate Challenge…

Beat Tiospaye Topa 82-29

Beat Flandreau Indian 68-45

Beat Lower Brule 70-45

Caleb White, the sharp-shooting junior dropped 25 in the title game against Lower Brule, and he got some help…Payton Halsiede with 13 points and Jamison Pratt, Johnny German and Divante Greeley each seven.

The Wambdi aren’t big but they play together…

“Defense and ball movement is whats key,” Francis Crawford.

“I swear they can throw the ball anywhere and someone will be there. They have such good chemistry.” Joseph Wells said after watching TZ knock off LB. “They lift each other up. They play like a well oiled engine. Every part working as one. And they are Scrappy and have no fear. Quickness and hustle.”

A couple of pretty good tests on the horizon.
