Records made to be broken: Brown (Pine Ridge) & Hunter (Miller) chasing down elusive marks

At left Pine Ridge senior Corey Brown should go over 1000 REBOUNDS for his career tonight while Miller’s Karst Hunter is chasing career rebounding and scoring records for Miller.

Beyond fired up to watch the Little Wound @ Pine Ridge boys game tonight (Streamed on KOLC - Youtube). It is a biggie for folks paying attention to Region 7A as Pine Ridge is 14-3 with Little Wound 11-5, winners of four straight including an 86-79 over Ranked B squad, Canistota, Red Cloud (when they still had Ale Rama) and most recently a 62-54 win over Flandreau Indian at the Sacred Hoops Classic on Saturday in Lower Brule.

Wanted to point out that coming into tonight’s game, Pine Ridge senior Corey Brown is seven rebounds away from 1000 career rebounds. (He scored his 1000th point earlier this season)

We’ve seen a ton of kids go over 1000 career points this season, but seriously, search the sports data banks out there…WHEN IS THE LAST TIME U REMEMBER A HIGH SCHOOL KID IN SOUTH DAKOTA going over 1000 REBOUNDS…

That’s freaking AWESOME!

And then there is Mr. Karst Hunter over in Miller…Wrote a little ditty about him over the weekend as he pumped in 38 points in a loss to Todd County.

Well, yesterday Hunter put up 50 points and 18 rebounds…(Who does that)

Anyway, the 50 points was a Miller school record, breaking the old mark of 47 by Troy Boomsma.

Heading into last night’s game Hunter had scored 1491 career points. Well, 50 carries him over the 1500 point plateau as he stands now at 1541. Tonight’s game with with Falukton Area has been postponed, BUT, MIller still has six games left in the regular season and at least 1 post-season game.

Miller school record: Darin Peterka 1754…(Hunter averages a shade over 28 per game…If he keeps up that average over those seven games that puts him at 1737)…But he did have FIFTY last night…That’s going to be fun to follow during the next few weeks.

Oh wait, not quite done….Hunter had 18 rebounds last night…That leaves his 8 short of the Miller school record held by Bryan Schwartz who played LB for the Jacksonville Jaguars for 5 years.

Records are fun!
