Don't count the (Mahpiya Luta) squads out heading into the post-season.

Kinda felt like the bottom of the basketball season fell away for a few days on Feb. 6 when we got the news that Ale Rama would be lost for the season for Red Cloud. A collective sigh for everyone in Region 7A with a little hint of…Hmmmm, what will the Red Cloud boys be like without Rama? In the aftermath of Rama’s injury I don’t think too many people noticed that the loss to St. Thomas More was 53-46, even though Ale was hurt in the games opening seconds. Can’t find the exact quote (RC Journal) but STM coach Dave Hollenbeck wasn’t super happy with his guys that night but really gave the Christian McGhee coached squad for hanging around after a tough and emotional loss.

So, what happened after Feb. 5

The Crusaders lost 55-49 to a 16-3 Hot Springs squad (Donovan 18, Whalen 11)

Beat AA Douglas 58-45 (Carlow 16, Beau Donovan 12, Jarron Big Horn 11)

Lost 72-44 @ home to Douglas (Think what u want there, Sturgis is 14-4 with two great guards, Stabber and Ryan Garland (Currently 9th-seeded AA team).

Closed the regular season with a 71-44 win over Bennett County.

And look who is still in the No. 2 hole for the Region 7A playoffs.

Region 7 Seed Points W-L

Pine Ridge 44.947 16-3

Red Cloud 43.850 14-6

Winner 43.111 13-5

Little Wound 42.941 11-6

Todd County 41.000 11-9

St. Francis Indian 39.579 7-12

Bennett County 38.6507-13

First round of Region 7A vs. Bennett County

A likely meeting with 13-5 Winner in the Round-of-32

IDK, give Christian McGhee a month to figure it out…sophomores get some experience…Who knows…If the Crusaders do make the Round-of-16 they will likely be seeded hire than last year’s No. 14 where they pummeled No. 3 Miller in the Round-of-16.

When is the last time anyone outside of Region 7A thought about Matt Rama’s Red Cloud girls?

Senior Kianna Big Crow and her family AND, Sharissa Haas with her family during Parents Night.

Believe that Red Cloud has a game at CEB today, weather permitting…No matter how that game turns out, Red Cloud, 12-7 (as of Wed morning) will host Little Wound in the first round of Region 7A…If they win they travel to 19-0 Winner.

The Red Cloud girls suffered a devastating injury in the early part of the season when 6-foot G, Emonee Pourier went down with an ACL tear.

When that happens, you just have to move forward…

Steady, senior leadership from Maya Franks and Kianna Big Crow, the lone remaining seniors.

Stevie Fallis had 25 at St. Francis

Moriah Morrisette - Super talented kid, great athlete (dangerous)

Some up and coming youth: Angelina LeBeaux (10th), Allison Richards (9th), Raina Ghost Bear (9th), Kylie Richards (10th)

Jordan Derby - Just love the raw potential of this young lady…Six-foot-2, kind of a late bloomer but when this young lady is on the floor, she blocks and changes tons of shots…Pretty good rebounder and getting better on the offensive end.

Sharissa Haas - Have seen this lady play a few times this year…Intense player, gets after it defensively and is a real weapon who can score in a variety of ways.

Depth: Rachel Two Bulls, Paisley Sierra and Jacoby Knight…

So, what have the Lady Saders done lately??

Heading into today’s game with CEB Red Cloud has won 8-of-10

The losses:

42-40 to St. Thomas More in RAPID!

68-60 to 12-7 Sturgis (Currently No. 9 seeded AA squad)

For those of you that are Region 7A fans…Buckle up It’s about to get EPIC!
