Augustana signee Lauren Sees scored 40 points last night in a 66-27 win against Menno. In that game, Sees became the all-time leading scorer in Avon girls history as she now stands at 1,796 points.

On January 17, Brad Poppe’s Avon Lady Pirates were just 6-5 on the season following a 54-51 loss to AC/DC (Andes Central/Dakota Christian). For a club that has terrorized Region 6B for the last three years (at least), the Pirates found themselves looking like a team that was missing all-stater, Cheylee Nagel who took her talents to Dakota State.
On January 19 though, things turned around for Avon!
Poppe’s club crushed Class B No. 4 Corsica-Stickney 45-30 in Yankton and since then the girls have been rolling.
Beat Burke 69-42
Beat Parkston 57-44
Beat Bon Homme 56-26
Beat Wagner 71-47
Beat Gregory 63-42
Beat a 10-7 Menno team 66-27
(For those keeping score at home, Avon has won 7 straight games)
Sees has been a monster all season, but it may be the development of Shalayne Nagel a 5-foot-10 8th grader who has emerged as a second scorer and a dominant force on the boards.
In Monday’s win over Gregory, Sees did her thing scoring 27 points but Nagel scored 18 and pulled down a monstrous 19 rebounds. Throw in 7 assists from junior Madisyn Cameron in the win over Gregory and suddenly Avon looks dangerous!
Current Region 6B standings:
Corsica-Stickney 16-1 45.11816
Tripp-Delmont/Armour 12-3 43.26712
Avon 13-5 42.6111
AC/DC 12-4 42.375
