Another gigantic night of basketball across South Dakota with Class B region semis and Class AA girls and boys SoDak-16’s…Interesting in following some of the really tight battles to gain home court advantage for these SoDak 16 games….Since about Feb. 1 both of the Sturgis teams have been right there in that No. 8 to No. 9 slot…
Sturgis girls, who finished 13-7 in the regular season earned the No. 9 seed. Tonight, Jordan Proefrock’s squad hits the road to take on 12-8 Mitchell. These two teams met on Feb. 1 in the Corn Palace with Mitchell earning a 49-38 win. The Scoopers were in the midst of a four-game skid in early February, but Proefrock’s Scoopers came in hot, winning 4-of-5 including a 43-39 win over Rapid City Central to close the regular season.
Sacred Hoops Athletes involved: Sturgis (Haylee Lambert), Mitchell (Tess Limberg & Payton Morgan)
A nice first year for Derris Buus who guided the Scoopers to a 15-5 regular season. The AA field is loaded this year so 15-5 earned the Scoopers the No. 9 seed. Tonight the guys step off the bus to take on an 11-9 Harrisburg squad, in Harrisburg. The Tigers dropped their final two games of the season to Lincoln and O’Gorman.
Sturgis comes into the game winners of 8-of-9 with the only setback coming 64-63 to Rapid City Stevens.
Coach Buus will be the West River, 17-U Sacred Hoops coach this summer.
A couple guys we’ll be watching for tonight are Sturgis Guards Ryan Garland and Cedric Stabber. Those two athletes played with Matt Rama’s 17-U squad last summer…Garland is having an exceptional year shooting the ball and Stabber does it all and is one of the best athletes in the AA field.
