A couple of monstrous upsets yesterday during the first rounds of the South Dakota state basketball tournaments, none bigger than the No. 8 seeded Mitchell Kernels who knocked off No. 1 seed, Sioux Falls O’Gorman. Wanted to give a gigantic shout-out to the Mitchell coaching staff: Head coach Wes Morgan

Asst. Coaches:Dave Brooks, Dr. Teri Morgan, Jamie Neuendorf, Brett Flemmer.

Mackenzie Miller led the Kernels with 19 points and 8 rebounds, and a brilliant defensive scheme held Drake bound Emma Ronsiek (jr.) to 11 points.

Two players, Tess Limberg and Payton Morgan who played for Dan Jewett’s Sacred Hoops East-River, 17-u squad were all over the court for Morgan, contributing to a monumental upset in the AA ranks.

Payton Morgan: 13 points (2-4 from field), 7-9 ft, 5 rebounds and 1 assist

At 12:02 on March 2nd, Sacred Hoops Co-Director Allan Bertram received a picture, and a text from Limberg and Morgan who had just helped Mitchell defeat Sturgis, 60-35 to qualify for the state tournament.
