Not a lot of early track results across South Dakota so far this spring. One that did kind of jump off the page was a 100 meter performance by Chester Area junior, Makenna Larson. At the SDSU Indoor meet on March 22, Larson clocked a 12.87 in the 100 meters while clobbering a field of AA runners. (Meet record is 12.76)

Last week, I feel like a few more Class B fans became aware of White River’s Caelyn Valandra-Prue. The sophomore was named to the Class B, First-Team (basketball) after helping lead White River to a 6th place finish at the state tournament.
Class B athletic fans: Brace yourself, a storm is coming, CVP enters her sophomore campaign as a two-time Class A 400-meter champion. Valandra-Prue broke the state-meet record in the 400 as an 8th-grader.
Let’s put up some times from the state meets a year ago.

The top returner from the Class B field is Dell Rapids St. Mary’s sophomore, Ella Heinitz who clocked a 1:00.58 to take 2nd in the 2018 Class B, 400 final.
