Keep an eye out for the Red Cloud and CEB girls distance programs

At left, the CEB girls 4x800 easily captured the 4 x 800 title at Kadoka. At right, Red Cloud 8th-grader opened her season with wins in the 800 and 1600 meters.

Well, with mother nature bearing down on South Dakota, AGAIN, wanted to take a look back at some of the performances that caught my eye from yesterday’s Harry Weller Invite.

CEB girls distance crews looking good early.

1st - CEB 4 x 800 - 11:37 - Sunni Dupris, Raelynn Vines, Adrianna White Wolf, Daci Lends His Horse

While 11:37 isn’t going to place at the state track meet, Tuesday was cold and windy in Kadoka. The second place team, Kadoka was 1:30 back of CEB.

What’s interesting about this team is they are young, BUT, they have a couple of horses in that race…Let’s check some of the other distance results for CEB.

1600 meters:

  1. Jade Ecoffey Red Cloud - 5:51

  2. Taylor Byerley - BC - 5:56

  3. Cheree Ferguson - Red Cloud 6:06

  4. Adrianna White Wolf - CEB 6:10

  5. Jolie Dugan - Jones County 6:18

Of note here, Dugan was last year’s Class B state cross country champion…While she’s not in shape, neither is anyone else. White Wolf had some breakout runs for Dupree several years ago. Looks like she is in decent shape already….by the end of the season, look out.

3200 meters:

1st - Daci Lends His Horse - 13:04

2nd - Jolie Dugan 13:23

Very impressive first meet for Lends His Horse….about a month from now in warmer weather and no wind, that’s a 12:10 kinda race.

Keep an eye on CEB’s distance core this season. That 4x800 has a legit chance of breaking 10-minutes this year.

Ecoffey’s impressive for Red Cloud

It is no fun running in 50 degree weather with 30 MPH winds.

Yet, Red Cloud’s Jade Ecoffey had a big opening day effort. Ecoffey was third in the Class A state meet in the 3200 meters a year ago.

Harry Weller results:

800 meters: 1st - 2:44

1600 meters: 1st - 5:51

Echo Ecoffey, Red Cloud senior off to a great start:

Kind of a unique athlete is Red Cloud senior Echo Ecoffey, who runs the hurdles and does the long and triple jumps.

Echo Ecoffey results

1. Triple jump - 1st 33’4” (state qualifying is 13’1”

Long jump - 1st - 15’4 (Standard is 16’2”)

100 hurdles: 1st - 16.69
