Wall vs. Freeman is going to be fun to watch all season....

Wall’s Andrew Law is just a junior and a returning champion in the 300 hurdles. Freeman’s Collin Helma won the Class B 400 meters (AS A FRESHMAN) in 49.96 (Wall photos courtesy of Bonnie Law)

Alright, so every Tuesday, as part of my work here with Sacred Hoops, I am going to dedicate the entire day solely to track and field. Some great athletes across South Dakota and can’t wait to see some of these team battles develop.

Last years’ Class B Boys Team points at state meet:

  • Freeman (46)

  • Viborg-Hurley (42)

  • Gregory (37)

  • Wall (37)

  • Chester Area 34.5

As a freshman, Helma was the outstanding state meet athlete, winning that 400 and anchoring two state champion relays teams. Two guys graduated from those relays so Helma could end up in just about anything from 100-800.

For the Wall Eagles, junior Andrew Law lives for track season. He’s been among the best B hurdlers for the first two years of his Wall career. Ran 15:16 (110 Hurdlers, 2nd at state) and he won the 300 hurdles (40.68)…Will be fun to keep an eye on this young man as he chases the 15-flat and sub-40 marks in his events.

Keep an eye on Karol Patterson’s Wall Eagles:

One thing very fun about watching Karol Patterson coach is she lets her athletes try a lot of events. Sprints, jumps, hurdles, lets give em a run and see what you might be good at.

The Eagles won the Medley relay last year…

Tack Tines was 5th in the Class B 200 meters (as a freshman)…Eagles could load up any number of sprint relays by the end of the season.

Good luck this week South Dakota field and track athletes…

Till Tuesday, later!
