Madison's Jeff Larsen's East River 16-U team ready to rumble in Sacred Hoops Summer Jam

Madison head coach Jeff Larsen is in charge of AN East River, Sacred Hoops 16-u squad.

Still kinda wondering how Madison boys coach Jeff Larsen hauled his team to the Class A state tournament in 2018/2019? Consider that after guiding Madison to the 2018 Class A state title (1-of the five titles), Michael Ricke stepped down as coach to take the Athletic Directors position for the Bulldogs.

So, in comes in 2009 Howard graduate, Jeff Larsen…

There was so much gifted talent on that 2017/2018 Madison team….Aaron Fiegen was a first team all stater and the Janke twins were 2nd, and 3rd-teamers on that 2018 state title team.

So, it was interesting following Madison last season…

On Jan. 22 Madison was 5-5 after a 67-62 home loss to Chamberlain.

Whatever clicked, really clicked as the Bulldogs finished the regular season winning eight-of ten. In that stretch run Madison beat Dakota Valley 83-81 in OT. The Bulldogs lost their regular season finale, in SFC, 65-61.

Still though, you didn’t expect a 13-7 Madison squad to get through…

But they did with wins over Hamlin and Flandreau to reach the state tournament.

No team in the A ranks improved more than Madison did during the season last year…

His 16-U squad is getting some hands on from one of the great young coaches in South Dakota!

Pretty excited to get a look at this squad during this weekend’s Sacred Hoops Summer Jam. Nice little mix there of talent from the A and B ranks…Big man, Nicholas Jensen is from AA, Sioux Falls Lincoln.

And of course, Larsen is finding some time to mold next year’s Madison squad that recently attended the St. Cloud State team camp…(Big guy, third from left in back row…Cody Brown a top football and basketball prospect next season….Big Guy, light on his feet…deft…but tough!)
