Wall senior Andrew Law plays football and basketball for the Wall Eagles….His passion though is track (hurdles) and the senior already has three state hurdling titles heading into his senior year.

Well, it is mid July and in just a few short weeks, athletes from across South Dakota will hit training camps for their respective sports. One of the guys I’ll be paying attention to this year is Wall senior Andrew Law. A three sport athlete at Wall, the 6-foot-3, 190 lb. senior will have an impact on the sports landscape of western South Dakota.
Wall was kind of a surprise in the 9B ranks last fall. The Eagles went undefeated in the regular season, putting up big numbers and running past all competition. The proverbial thought was the Eagles would get crushed in their semifinal matchup with State Champ Colome, but Lex Heathershaw has been building a program out west, getting kids in the weight room and the Eagles gave Colome a heck of a game.
The Eagles bumped up to Class 9A this season, and you can bet Heathershaw will have his guys in the hunt for a deep playoff run. While football is not Law’s favorite sport, he’s good at it and provides a sledgehammer TE/DE for the Eagles.
The Eagles open up their season Aug. 23 against an always dangerous Harding County squad. The following week, Aug. 30, Wall takes on what will be the No. 1 ranked Class 9A team, Sully Buttes.
Maxpreps is down and the South Dakota High School Activities Association has reset things for the 2019/2020 seasons so can’t find any Wall team records or stats. Law is a 6-foot-3 banger. Again, basketball not his favorite sports, but in small towns kids go out for sports because kids go out for sports.
Track & Field:
So, Andrew Law has been on the South Dakota hurdlers radar for the last three seasons. As a sophomore, Law finished 2nd in the 110 hurdles and won a state title in the 300 hurdles.
One of the things that is exceptionally impressive about Law is he works exceptionally hard at his craft, and he has Big Goals he wants to achieve. Can’t remember where I saw or heard this, BUT, before Law is done with his hurdling career at Wall, he wants to have times that are in the All-Time, Top-10 in South Dakota history.
Pretty lofty for a kid from a small Class B school, BUT, outstanding to see someone aim high and then put in the work to achieve those Big-Time goals.
2019 State Track meet:
The Wall Eagles under the direction of Karol Patterson were superb last season, finishing 2nd in Class B, trailing only Viborg-Hurley.
Law won two state titles:
110 hurdles: 14.94 (first time under 15-flat)
300 hurdles: 40.56
Law was hampered with a leg injury through much of the track season, so, next season, when he’s healthy, this guy is going to go BIG!
